Young Enterprise
On Friday 26 February two groups of Oulder Hill students attended a Young Enterprise trade fair at the Trafford Centre. The groups of Year 10 and 11 students have been successfully running their respective Young Enterprise companies for 3 months and each designed and created products to sell at the trade fair. Year 10 opted for children’s colouring packs and Year 11 for individually designed hand-made bags. Their stalls looked incredible - their products were packaged and displayed with great care and each team managed to sell plenty of stock. Their overall professionalism and behaviour were fantastic and they really did the school proud. The students themselves enjoyed the experience and stated how thrilled they were by their team’s achievement. Year 11 can now look forward to their next venture, which is to organise and run their school talent show which they intend to call “Oulder Hill’s got Talent.”

Performing Arts
Last week at the Performing Arts Festival our 2 rock bands, ‘Revolution’ and ‘Carnage’ took the place by storm and achieved Highly Commended for their performances. Revolution consist of Joshua Singh, James Singh, Georgia Flynn and Mitchell Johnson. Carnage are Tom Banks, Oliver Hughes, Edward Hopwood and Andrew Saunders. The adjudicator remarked that Revolution performed ‘as if your life depended on it – which is a good thing.’ He also liked Carnage’s obscure choice of material. Well done on your success.

Basketball
Well done to the Year 9 basketball team who represented Rochdale at the John Amaechi Centre in Manchester. They played three tough games against the champions of Trafford, Wigan and Tameside. Unfortunately they were defeated in the games against Trafford and Tameside but had a convincing win against Wigan, winning by 24 points to 11. The pupils involved were Mathew Miles, Abdul Shahid, Jack Chantrey, Jack Scott, Sean Borg, Usman Mohammed, Robert Heath, Danny Mcdowell, Domininc Fawcett, Alex Bishop and Luke Wakefield.

Fairtrade Competition
As part of Fairtrade Fortnight the LRC ran a ‘Clothes Swap’ competition. The winning team, which consisted of Michael Shear, Dillon Taylor, Reece Jones, Daniel Buckley and Mitchell Moran from Year 8, completed the challenge in a time of 1 minute 5 seconds and won a hamper of Fairtrade goodies.

Maths
Last Thursday guest speaker Mike Fletcher of www.mathsinspiration.com visited some of our Year 11 students with a view to inspiring people to study Maths. He used a wide range of examples of how Maths can be used in everyday life to raise awareness of how important and interesting Maths is and how studying the subject can lead to a wide range of interesting careers.
