Deeplish Primary School.
The Lord Mayor of Manchester came to Deeplish Primary School on Tuesday afternoon. Ms Alison Firth, present Lord Mayor and ex teacher at Deeplish was invited by Headteacher Ms Burrow to visit school. During an enjoyable afternoon she met the Chair and Vice Chair of the Governors and also the Chair and Secretary of the School Council. She took part in two Key Stage assemblies, singing with the children and had a very rigorous question and answer session with our year 6’s. Key Stage 1 pupils presented her with a lovely bunch of flowers as a thank you for coming.
Also on Tuesday, Deeplish Singing Group led by Mrs. Isherwood, took part in Rochdale Youth Festival of Performing Art. They sang two songs beautifully which merited a fabulous report from the adjudicator. Well done!
The Primary Capital Programme meetings continued into this week looking at the detail of the temporary accommodation that will be needed for classes from September. We are getting towards the final stages of planning for the move out of school to allow building work to start.
The annual SRE talks took place this week to parents and our Year 6 children. Our Year 5’s will have their talks next week.
The School Council had another meeting this week where Ms Burrow told the council where school is up to with the plans for the school refurbishment. Also during this meeting Mrs Doolan, the cook, was introduced to the children.
Goldilocks was the subject of the assembly to the whole school by Miss Butterworth’s Year 1 children. The children gave an excellent performance using very clear speaking voices!
Attendance Awards this week went to Mrs Taylor’s, Mrs Afzal’s and Mrs Campbell-Starling’s classes. Early Birds were Miss Butterworth’s, Miss Regan’s, Mrs Vickers’ and Mrs Campbell-Starling’s classes. Congratulations to the two Zahra’s for each receiving a prize for their 100% attendance this week.
