Child’s play
Date published: 08 March 2010
Over the past two years play facilities across the borough of Rochdale have been transformed thanks to a £2.1 million funding from the Government.
The last of these sites are soon to be completed which means that children in the Borough now have an unprecedented choice of high quality places to play.
The funding was specifically for play spaces for children over eight years of age. It also required the new sites to move away from the traditional ‘swings and slides’ design and feature natural and adventurous play elements.
Th Council says the choice of sites was made on the basis of the child population figures and as far as possible has resulted in an even spread across the borough and the project has seen detailed consultation take place, with children included, at each site and has had the full support of the local councillors in each area.
All 28 sites and an adventure playground are expected to be completed by April 2010.
