Middleton Junction residents’ reunion
Date published: 02 March 2010
Theannual get-together of former residents of Middleton Junction goes ahead next month - even though its founder and organiser Joan Carr died last year.
Mrs Carr’s husband Gerald stepped in to organise last year’s party, following his wife’s death in January, and has taken it on again this year.
The event will be at the Radclyffe Arms, Middleton Junction, on 3 March, from 8pm.
“It’s what Joan would have wanted,’ he said. “This will be the 16th year of the reunion and hopefully it will be a good one.”
The party, for anyone who lived in the Middleton Junction area from the 1930s onwards, has attracted up to 250 people in the past, though in recent years has settled between 50-100.
“I think a few more came last March in honour of Mrs Carr,” said Mr Carr, who lives in Milnrow. “It isn’t getting any easier - regulars aren’t getting any younger and some are in their late eighties.”
