Deeplish Primary School

What a busy week at school! Monday morning’s whole school assembly was all about the Barnardos charity and how people can raise money to help. Our school children have to look after an egg for a week. Sounds strange doesn’t it? Children have to get a hard boiled egg, decorate it and take it with them everywhere they go for a week. Each egg has its own diary of places it has visited. Children are sponsored for this. We have had some amazing looking eggs in school!

“Bully’s Paradise” was the title of an anti-bullying show delivered by the Firehorse Theatre Group. The children learned how one bully managed to change the way she behaved and also how the bully and the victim felt. This was an excellent production.

School has hosted many PCP meetings this week in preparation for our school refurbishment. There is so much to organise, it seems never ending but will be well worth it in the end!
On Tuesday and Wednesday our Year 3 and 4 children visited the Doorstep Project which was held in a caravan on the school car park. The children learned how families can and do work together to care for each other and the community.

On Tuesday afternoon Mrs Campbell-Starling’s class visited a children’s play area on King Street East and came up with different names it could be called.

Kye White from the Cardinal Langley Sports Partnership came in to school this week to train some of our Key stage 2 children to lead a “Mini Stars” competition for our Key Stage 1 children in 2 weeks time.

We had some prickly and feathery visitors in school on Thursday when members of Hedgehog Rescue brought two hedgehogs and an owl to see children from Nursery and Year 1. The children learned all about these creatures and even got to stroke them!

Also on Thursday, Lewis Childs from Manchester City FC came to train our year 1 and 2 children in football skills. We have some budding footballers at Deeplish Primary school. Well done everyone!

Thursday was certainly a busy day as our year 5 children joined in a litter pick in the local area with our PCSO’s, local police officers and members of Environmental Services. This was part of the “Big Clean” project.

The BBC news in Deeplish? Well that’s what it seemed during Mrs Vicker’s class assembly. A Deeplish “TV” crew interviewed members of Hebden Bridge to see what they thought of the children’s visit there. Well done to all our actors and especially Khubayb!

On Friday, Reception continued with the exercise theme when each class visited Sparks Gym in Heywood and came away tired but happy. Thank you for your excellent efforts.

Yousra, Jawairya and Simran organised a colouring competition which raised £5 for Children In Need. The prizes were given out during Friday’s achievement assembly.

Attendance Awards this week went to Mrs Afzal’s and Mrs Campbell-Starling’s classes each of whom had 100% attendance.

Early birds this week were Mrs Campbell-Starling’s class where everyone turned up on time all week and Mrs Akhtar’s and Mrs Afzal’s classes where only 1 person was late in each of the classes. Hina and Aliya won a prize for 100% attendance for the week.
