Date published: 01 March 2010

It is now eight years since Littleborough Arts Festival was started and last week the saw its Annual General Meeting at Littleborough Coach House attended by more than 30 members.

The Chairman, Richard Cafiero, reported on another year of progress and promised that during the 2010 festival week, which will run from 28 August to 5 September 2010, will be even better. As well as the main exhibition of paintings and photography, there will be an increase in the craft workshops and musical ventures which are becoming a major part of the festival week.

The profits from the 2009 Festival of £1,000 were donated to Springhill Hospice and Ian Jenkins, the Hospice fund manager, was on hand to collect the cheque.

This year was a special event for the Littleborough Arts Festival as following the AGM, the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Keith Swift and the Mayoress Sue Etchells launched the 'Creative Littleborough Map'.

The Map is now a reality and will promote Littleborough. It already gives details of 30 local artists and craft outlets within the Littleborough area. Some of those included on the map, such as Geoff Butterworth, Walter Kershaw and David Ainsworth, have achieved national recognition.
