Council wasting more money
Date published: 01 March 2010
Rochdale Borough's Lib Dem Council has come in for yet more criticism of the way in which it is wasting tax payers’ money. In the wake of recently announced cuts to front line services, despite a rise in council tax over twice the national average, the Council is spending thousands of pounds on 'personal mentors' for Lib Dem Cabinet members.
In an email to Cabinet Members, council officers said: "In recognition of the challenges you face as Cabinet members, and in the current economic climate, the council has contracted to pay for you to have this support made available to you."
In response, Cllr Alan McCarthy said: "I think members of the public should be made aware of how their Council Tax is being proposed to be spent for support that they should be able to do given they work directly with Heads of Service under their remit – how wiser could this be spent – maybe on front line services?"
