Welcome back
School commenced last Monday for the second half of the spring term. The last day of term before Easter will be on Thursday 1 April. All examination classes should now be working hard revising and getting ready for their summer examinations, as the first exam will take place on 15 May.

Valentine Poetry Competition
We had many high quality entries for the LRC Valentine Poetry competition. We could only pick one winner and that was Eve Walton in Year 7. Well done to Eve and to everyone else that entered.

Well Done Greg
Our Head Boy, Greg Pearson took part in the U16 Sureshot National Basketball Cup Final recently and won a gold medal – an outstanding achievement. He plays for a team called the Manchester Magic and they won the final at the Amaechi Centre in Whalley Range against Milton Keynes 80-64.

Cross Country
Several of our students (in fact more than any other school in the authority) took part in the Greater Manchester Schools Cross Country competition just before half term. Our students performed really well and there were several exceptional performances. Lucy Moore was our best finisher of the day in 16th in the Minor Girls category. Ben Scott came in 45th in the Minor Boys. In the Junior Girls Beth Greenwood put in a spirited effort to finish 64th and Courtney Holden battled on well despite a fall in her race to finish 88th. In the Inter Boys, Anthony Dalton ran a fine race to be 19th in a fast time and in the Junior Boys, Abdul Shahid took to the challenge well, finishing 63rd. Well done to everyone – you were all a credit to the school and we are proud of you.

Basketball
Well done to the Year 10 basketball team who played Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School away in the English Schools Competition before half term, drawing the game 73 points all. The game then went into over-time but unfortunately they were narrowly defeated by 3 baskets. They have done fantastically well in the competition and were a credit to the school. The team was Sam Clayton, James Taylor, Kieran Wilson, Mathew Miles, Mathew Green, Ryan Slack, Connor Leavy and Josh Marsden. Man of the match was Mathew Green who scored 14 baskets.
