New leisure complex out to tender
Date published: 23 February 2010
In January Rochdale Online revealed plans are being made for a new state of the art swimming complex in Rochdale.
Rochdale Borough Council has now posted a public tender notice, and the tender reveals that as well as a a 25 metre swimming pool, the new leisure complex will also include a changing village, gym, sports hall and community facilities.
The existing centre is over 70 years old and whilst it continues to provide an extensive range of swimming, health and fitness opportunities for a substantial customer base, it is considered to be no longer fit for its purpose with the outdated design and layout of the facilities and plant also creating high running costs.
The value of the contract is expected to be between £8 million and £11.5 million and the work should take 19 months to complete.
