Robbery at Heywood beauty salon leaves owner shocked

Date published: 19 February 2010

The Shine beauty salon and hairdressers on Market Street, Heywood, was robbed of its takings by a masked male last week.

The robbery took place on the afternoon of Friday 12 February at 4.30pm, while customers were still in the salon.

The robber, who is described as a white male, 5' 4" and of a slim build, burst into the salon wearing a balaclava.

He then reached over the counter, took the cash box containing the salon’s takings and fled the scene.

Two other males also involved in the robbery, were stood on the salon entrance as look-outs for the robber.

Significant descriptions of these two men were not able to be given by witnesses at the scene.

Owner of Shine, Carolyn Wynn said of the robbery: “It is a true tragedy that a salon such as this in Heywood should be targeted like it has been.

“If we had more police patrolling the streets then incidents like this just wouldn’t happen.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson made the following statement: "We can confirm that a 22-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the robbery, but has been released without charge."
