Date published: 28 November 2006
Police are appealing for witnesses after a 21-year-old woman died following a traffic collision in Rochdale on the night of Monday 27 November.
Shortly before 11.15pm police attempted to stop a Fiat Brava that was seen driving erratically on Bolton Road in Rochdale.
The car failed to stop and travelled along Rochdale Road East where it collided with an oncoming bus at the junction with Green Lane, Heywood.
A 21 year old woman, who was a passenger in the Brava, was taken to Rochdale Infirmary suffering serious injuries. She later died as a result of her injuries.
None of the passengers on the bus are believed to have been injured during the collision.
This matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the collision, particularly passengers on the bus, many of whom had left the scene before the police arrived.
They are also keen to speak to the driver of a car that was seen to drive along Green Lane, crossing the junction with Rochdale Road East, immediately before the collision. It is believed that the driver of the Brava had to swerve to avoid this car.
