Rochdale Music Society concert review
Date published: 16 February 2010
Music-lovers were treated to an outstanding display of ripening performance talent by three young musicians from Chetham's School of Music at Heywood Civic Centre.
16-year old trombonist Peter Moore, 13-year old violinist Callum Smart and 13-year old pianist Youanfan Yang each caught the enraptured attention of a delighted audience with highly accomplished performances of music as diverse as Weber's operatic-style Romance for Trombone and piano, Schumann's rich and scintillating ABEGG Variations for piano and Ravel's unashamedly exhibitionist Tzigane for violin and piano.
Given in the presence of the Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale, this was the latest concert in its 2009-10 series promoted by Rochdale Music Society.
Next concert will be on Saturday, 27 March also in the Heywood Civic Centre at 7.30pm when a concert of String Quartets by the British composers Vaughan Williams, C.V. Stanford and Oldham-born William Walton will be on the appetising menu offered by the Stanford Quartet.
