Date published: 29 November 2006
The parents of a 21-year-old woman who died following a road traffic collision in Rochdale on Monday 27 November 2006, have paid tribute to their daughter.
The victim, who has been formally identified as Chantelle Gemma Blackmore (12/03/85) of High Grove Road, Grasscroft, Oldham, was the passenger in a Fiat Brava that was seen driving erratically on Bolton Road in Rochdale shortly before 11.15pm.
The car failed to stop and travelled along Rochdale Road East where it collided with an oncoming bus at the junction with Green Lane, Heywood.
Chantelle was taken to Rochdale Infirmary suffering serious injuries. She later died as a result of her injuries.
None of the passengers on the bus are believed to have been injured during the collision.
This matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the collision, particularly passengers on the bus, many of whom had left the scene before the police arrived.
They are also keen to speak to the driver of a car that was seen to drive along Green Lane, crossing the junction with Rochdale Road East, immediately before the collision. It is believed that the driver of the Brava had to swerve to avoid this car.
Chantelle's parents, Roger and Mildred Blackmore have paid tribute to her.
They said: "Chantelle was a bubbly, fun-loving young lady who lived life to the full.
"She had many friends and will be greatly missed by her family, who love her so much."
Anyone with any further information on this incident is asked to contact the Area 3 Road Policing Unit on 0161 856 8809.
A 21-year-old man from Oldham arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been bailed pending further enquiries until 24 January 2007.
