For the love of music

Heading the bill at a packed Back Door Music Project Fancy Dress Valentine's & Band Night tonight were The Pins with the Brightsparks in support and DJ James Lord spinning the tunes.

Formerly Safety Pins - Ant on Vocals, Wez on Drums, Adam on Lead Guitar, Dave on Bass - the band have been together for three years, and were back performing at their musical home to an enthusiastic crowd.

The band's claim to fame is that they have played with the legendary 70's act Doctor Feelgood, but this young up and coming band are also talented musicians in their own right and had the Back Door crowd rocking to their beat, everything from 60s to punk to 80s metal to modern material, even their own (superb) rock version of Nena's 1984 hit, 99 red balloons.

The Back Door Music Project is an organisation aimed at young people 13-25 years in the borough of Rochdale. It provides a safe social meeting space where they can gain an insight into the music industry.

Through music and performance, young people gain confidence, experience and skills which can lead to formal and informal accreditation and further education courses.

The project also brings together adult volunteers whose skills and experience are passed on in an informal and supportive way.

Back Door's Carol Moore explained: "We are currently expanding our adult volunteer program and are looking for musicians to pass on their skills and experience to up and coming young musicians. Help us keep live music alive. Contact me on 07989 085034 or Dave Hoyle on 07930 362399."

(Apologies to Brightsparks we arrived after your set - catch you next time)

On stage next Friday (19 February): Terminal Velocity and Northern Lights with DJs Cas Cavelera and Ben Riley
