Gritting review report imminent
Date published: 11 February 2010
Following the snow and ice during December and January the Council had a huge number of complaints from local people and were forced to set up a review to investigate the failures of winter maintenance and gritting and poor/muddled communication.
A draft report will be presented to the council’s Performance Scrutiny Committee on Monday 15 February.
Councillor Irene Davidson, Leader of Rochdale Borough Council, said: “Our staff worked really hard and did the best they could – but we’re fully aware that many residents were unhappy with the service we provided. This review will help us to take a look at our priorities and assess whether they need altering ahead of next winter.”
The draft review includes recommendations to take a more detailed look at priority gritting routes, stock levels and storage of grit, grit bins, resources and the management of contracts with partners and third party suppliers.
