Springhill Hospice Calendar Photo Competition

Date published: 10 February 2010

Local amateur photographers are invited to enter their photos for next year’s Springhill Hospice Calendar. The calendar will include thirteen colour photographs of local scenes – the front cover and one for each month.

All entries received will be displayed on the Gallery Level of the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre in May in order to give the general public the chance to vote for their favourite photograph. The photo with the most votes will then be used as the front cover picture on the calendar. The monthly pictures will be decided upon by a panel of judges once the cover has been chosen.

Ian Jenkins, Fundraising Manager for Springhill Hospice, says: “When the judges look at choosing the photos for inside the calendar they are particularly looking for pictures that show the changing of the seasons or those that capture some sort of local activity and, of course, scenes that represent the whole borough – Middleton to Littleborough, Heywood to Whitworth.

“In recent years, due to an increase in digital photography and home printing, we have had several photographs that could well have made the calendar but were let down by their print quality. I would urge anybody who is printing their own pictures, therefore, to consider this before they send them in as, despite some wonderful subject matter, if the final copy we receive will not reproduce well it can not be considered by the judging panel.”

The entry fee for the competition is £4.00 for up to four prints with an extra 50p for each additional print submitted. Cheques and postal orders should be made payable to ‘Springhill Hospice’ and sent to the address on the entry form to arrive before the closing date, Friday 16 April 2010.

Photographic entries must measure 150mm wide x 105mm deep (landscape), in order to fit in with the calendar’s format. A completed entry form should be attached with each set of pictures, complete with the scene, location, name and address of the entrant identified on the reverse of each print. Copyright remains with the photographer, but pictures submitted cannot be returned.
