Huhne in Heywood for Christmas celebrations

Date published: 05 December 2006

Liberal Democrat Environment Spokesman Chris Huhne MP will be in Heywood on Saturday, 16 December to join in the Christmas celebrations with pensioners at Roeacre Court.  He will be attending Councillor Peter Rush’s Annual Christmas gathering to talk about his “Green Christmas” idea.

Chris Huhne said: "I am looking forward to my visit to Heywood, I have met Peter on a number of occasions and he has raised a number of key Heywood problems including the flooding problems.  The main part of my job is to campaign on key environmental issues, including climate change.  I will be coming to Heywood to tell everyone about our key environmental messages and how the people of Heywood can do their bit this Christmas to help combat climate change.  I hope that many people in Heywood make this their New Year’s Resolution."

Peter Rush said: "This is the man that many people have tipped to become the next leader of the Liberal Democrats and we’re delighted that he has agreed to come to Heywood. Unfortunately, it is for Roeacre Court Residents and their guests only; we are, however, looking to arrange another celebrity guest at a bigger venue in March."

Mr Huhne will be shown round the town by Councillor Rush and will visit residents on Millers Brook Close, Wilton Grove, Railway Street and others affected by the flooding.
