Rochdale Infirmary Players perform Cinderella to raise money
Rochdale Infirmary Players have performed their annual pantomime at Falinge Park High School this weekend. The first night of the show was described by cast members as: ‘the best opening night that Rochdale has ever seen.’
Cinderella was this year’s production and the cast, staff from Rochdale Infirmary, have worked tirelessly to put on the show.
The cast have been rehearsing since September and although at times it has been tough, Kelly Fenton who played the evil stepmother, said that the result is completely worth it.
Ms Fenton has taken part in the pantomime for the third year running, she said: “I have felt more nervous than I did last year but I have really enjoyed taking part. This is a really fun way of raising money.
“Everybody has worked really hard and put in a lot of time, including those behind the scenes, we have all pulled together to get to this stage.”
President of the society, Dr David Lewis, was thrilled with the end product, he said: “Although it can be tough to get to this stage everybody loves the work and are desperate to take part next year.
“Everybody has done an incredible job and I am very proud of them all.
“We set up the society so that staff could get together socially; sometimes working in a hospital morale can be low so this is a good way to get everybody together.”
Ann Rhodes who played a key role in organising the production said: “When people sign up to take part they have to be committed, and they certainly have been.”
Rochdale Infirmary Players is in its 29th year and the society works all year round to raise money for extra things needed in the hospital, in particular those things that are not always top of the list to buy with other hospital funds.
The proceeds from this year’s production will go to the Floyd Unit at Birch Hill Hospital, which is a neurology unit.
