The Independent Schools North of England Senior Cross Country were held at Scarisbrick College. On a bitterly cold day and in very muddy conditions, Jackson Cowie ran an excellent race to win a bronze medal in the under 15 race. Jackson will now go on to run in the National finals, which will be held at Princethorpe College on 28 February.
The under 16 water polo team have reached the National bowl finals to be held at Warwick School. Among their illustrious opponents will be Harrow.
Beech House under 113 Rugby Union side just missed out on a spot in the regional RFU Tournament. In the first game Beech House were slow starting and lost a scrappy game against King David School. The second game showed tougher still as Woodhey beat the lads 5-1. The third game was against St Anne’s from Middleton. Both sides were evenly matched and the game finished a draw. In the final game Beech House beat Broadoak 4-0, with excellent performances from James Riley, Kingsley Benson, Conor Leyland and Jacob Malkin. Player of the tournament was Conor Leyland.
Beech House under 14’s Football Squad travelled to Springhill High School on a wet and windy Wednesday night for the RMSFA Schools Tournament. Although the side didn’t register a win, they performed very well and were a credit to the school. Harrison Groome was awarded player of the tournament by Mr Hargreaves.
Beech House under 11’s Basketball maintain their position at the top of the Rochdale Schools League with two wins and one loss in this months round of matches. They began with a very pleasing 12-0 victory over St Margaret’s thanks to excellent team work, solid defence and superb shooting. Yolanda Cruz continued her impressive scoring form ably supported by Jacob Hill and an ever energetic Luke Shaw. In their second game, the team came up, once more, against a very strong St John RC School and despite superb defending by Alice Davies and Conor Leyland, they slipped to a very disappointing 4-0 loss. Beech House had to bounce back quickly for their final game and bounce back they did in impressive style with a 14-2 win over Holy Trinity. The fresh legs of George Preston facilitated a very mobile and effective team performance. All fingers are crossed for next month’s fixtures so that Beech House can hold on to the top spot – Good luck team.
The under 14 girls football team played their final round of matches in the six a-side league at Matthew Moss. They earned a hard fought draw against Middleton Technology and lost 2-0. Year 7 pupil Cecily Morgan was invited to take part in trials for the under 13’s netball team which will represent Rochdale in the forth-coming tournament in March. We wish her well and hope for good news.

Beech House never seemed to recover and struggled to get their game together losing 11-7. Goal scorers were James Dixon (3), Dominic Nield (2), Luke Senior and Aqib Ahmed. Player of the day was James Dixon.
The under 14 girls football team travelled to Oulder Hill to play in the RMSFA 5 a-side tournament. The girls showed lots of promise during the tournament and showed lots of determination in all games. The display of the day was a 1 – 1 draw with Middleton Technology College, Paige Walsh scored the goal from the penalty spot. Paige shared the player of the tournament privilege with Saira Mahmood who played fantastically well in goal, producing some fantastic saves.
