Woman raped in own bed

Date published: 31 January 2010

A 35-year-old woman was raped in her own bed in Buersil last night (Saturday 30 January).

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody.

Describing the attack as "horrific", Detective Chief Inspector Jon Chadwick reminded women to "take precautions when out at night" and to "ensure their homes are secure at night".

“While incidents like this are extremely rare, extra officers will be out in the community throughout the weekend, and will be happy to speak to residents about any concerns they have and give them safety advice.

“Some simple precautions for the safety of those out at night include travelling home in groups where possible, if you must walk home alone stick to busy well lit areas and let someone know where you are.

“Those already at home should ensure all doors and windows are locked and that they do not leave keys in places that are easily accessible.”

DCI Chadwick also said extra police patrols would be deployed in Buersil.
