Trio of rapists locked up

Date published: 29 January 2010

Three men who raped a teenage girl have been jailed.

Ajmal Afridi (26/01/1991), of Boundary Street, Rochdale, Imtiaz Syed (21/04/1989), of Ellesmere Street, Freehold and Tayyab Hussain (26/11/1990), of Henry Street, Deeplish, all admitted rape.

Afridi and Syed were sentenced to six years in a Young Offenders' Institute and Hussain to three at Bolton Crown Court.

On Wednesday 28 May 2008, the victim, who was 16 at the time, went to a house in Freehold, Rochdale.

During the morning the victim drank a small amount of alcohol which led to her losing consciousness. Unable to consent to sex the three offenders took turns raping her.

The victim only realised what had happened to her in the morning.

The horrific attack was captured on a mobile phone by a 17-year-old boy, who was jailed for eight months.

Another man, Mohammed Usman Raja (24/12/1988), of Freetrade Street, Freehold, was sentenced to six months at a Young Offenders' Institute in October 2009 for perverting the course of justice after attempting to give one of the defendants an alibi.

Detective Constable Charles Stewart, of Rochdale CID, said: "These three animals have subjected the victim to the most appalling and demeaning crime.

"They took full advantage of a young, vulnerable girl with no consideration to the huge and devastating impact this has had on her.

"The fact this vile attack was filmed by another person has made this all the more difficult for the victim and they have rightly been given long sentences for their crimes."
