Appeal following teenager rape

Date published: 29 January 2010

Police investigating the rape of an 18-year-old woman are continuing to appeal for witnesses.

Shortly after 10pm on Tuesday 29 December 2009, police were called to the junction of Hill Top Drive and Rudyard Grove as a woman had been raped.

The victim had been walking home when she was attacked by a man who she described as white, between 40-50 years old, 5ft 5ins tall, of fat build with short grey and brown hair and a long fringe.

He had bushy grey and brown eyebrows, brown eyes, thin lips and had a black 'beauty spot' under his left eye. The man also had grey stubble, a local accent and was wearing a black and red Reebok jumper with horizontal stripes.

He was also wearing black tracksuit pants with white or grey lines down the side.

Detective Constable Russell Clarke of Rochdale CID said: "Following further investigation we can confirm this was an isolated incident and is not connected to any other reports in the area.

"I would still urge women to stay on their guard while out at night and try to avoid walking alone where possible.

"If you feel as if you are being followed, get to somewhere safe and tell someone.

"We are doing all we can to catch this man but if anyone recognises this quite distinctive description I would ask you get in touch, we need to find him and quickly so he cannot hurt anyone else."

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 4622 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
