Pervert jailed for sex offences against 10-year-old
Date published: 26 January 2010
A pervert who incited a 10-year-old girl to commit a sex act has been jailed.
Ian Saville (02/03/1966) of Washington Street, Halifax, made contact with a 10-year-old girl who lives in Heywood, Rochdale, on Friday 13 February 2009 over the Internet.
He admitted 12 counts of sexual activity in the presence of a child and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
On Tuesday 26 January 2010, he was jailed for two years at Bolton Crown Court. He was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for 10 years.
Saville told the victim she was 'sexy' and intimated he wanted to perform a sex act on her. Both the victim and offender had a web cam and during the web chat Saville exposed himself.
Saville had further contact with the girl between Sunday 15 February 2009 and Sunday 22 February 2009 as well as further contact on Saturday 28 February 2009.
During the conversations between them he repeatedly exposed himself to the victim. He also convinced her to expose herself and perform a sex act on herself.
On 28 February 2009, the victim's father went into her room and realised the victim was still on-line. He saw explicit messages on the computer and called police.
Saville was traced and arrested at his home on Sunday 15 March 2009.
Detective Constable Ian Bell, from the Child Protection Unit at Rochdale, said: "Saville is a perverted man who has targeted a young girl for his own sick sexual gratification.
"Because of what he has done an innocent 10-year-old girl has been left having nightmares and terrified by this awful ordeal.
"This case once again reminds us of some of the types of people who trawl the Internet for victims.
"Greater Manchester Police is committed to bringing offenders like Saville to justice but I would urge parents to always be mindful of what type of site their children are visiting and if they have any concerns to please call police."
Anyone else who thinks they may have been a victim of Saville is asked to call the Child Protection Unit on 0161 856 8067.
