Terror of carjack victim in multi-storey
Date published: 18 February 2008
A Heywood woman has been attacked in a Halifax multi-storey car park - two youths grabbed her keys and sped off in her Vauxhall Astra.
The 44-year-old victim, who only went to work in Halifax two weeks ago, was punched in the face by one of the teenagers as she went to her car after work.
The woman told the Halifax Evening Courier that as she arrived at the Cow Green car park she saw the pair, aged about 16 or 17.
"It was dark and I thought it better not to make eye contact. I just wanted my car," she said.
Then the two approached her and one pushed the woman around. "I was worried about what would happen to me," she said. "You worry about being raped."
She fought back and screamed for help. "It felt like no-one was there," she said. "The smaller youth was pushing me about and I bit his hand. He punched me in the face."
As she continued to scream, her attacker put his hand over her mouth. "I couldn't breathe and all I could hear them saying was they wanted my car keys. I just thought it was not worth struggling."
The woman said her ordeal lasted maybe only three minutes "but felt like an eternity."
She added: "I just thought 'How dare they?'
"I may have been foolish to put up a fight because you don't know what can happen."
The woman said she did not think the attack was planned – she was just a vulnerable target.
She called for more security in the car park. "There was just no one around.
"I think something needs to be done because I am sure I am not going to be the only victim."
The raiders, both white, are slim and wore hoodies.
The first is about 6ft tall, the other about 5ft 6ins.
The stolen Astra has still not been found.
Police are appealing for witnesses to contact Calderdale CID on 01422 337085.
