Samaritans helped out by Rotary

Peter Crabbe & Elvet Smith
Peter Crabbe, Director of Samaritans for Rochdale, Oldham and District branch received a cheque for £1000 from Rotary Club of Rochdale President Doctor Elvet Smith at the Club’s meeting at the Broadfield Hotel last week.
Money has been raised from the club’s fundraising at the Town Hall craft fair and a collection at Morrison’s supermarket.
Mr Crabbe explained that Samaritans have to rely heavily on charitable donation to maintain the service to the public. Each branch is self supporting and have no government or local government funding so rely heavily on voluntary donations. There are particular demands to maintain the premises and encourage volunteers to become trained helpers.
Dr Smith said: "Rochdale Rotary is very keen to help the Samaritans continue to provide such a worthwhile service to the distressed people of the District".
