Rochdale Branch of NSPCC raise more funds for NW Children

Date published: 19 January 2010

The organising committee of Rochdale Branch of the NSPCC, which includes the three Districts of Heywood, Littleborough and Rochdale, held a meeting last night at the offices of Molesworths Bright Clegg, Solicitors.

The branch has been very active during its financial year which runs to 31st Match 2010. The Chairman of the Branch, Barbara Tunstall, reviewed the events occurring since the last meeting in September, and congratulated the three districts on their efforts. These included locally a Butterfly Ball, Children’s Pedal Push, Pennine Proms, Coffee Mornings, Charity Runs and a Head Shave at the Tanners Arms. Nationally the Branch was chosen to propose a motion to the ACM in London in October seeking to support the training of family mentors to help keep children with their natural parents.

The Branch Treasurer Elisabeth Kay reported that in spite of the recession the Branch had raised a total for £32,587.86 during the year to date which has exceeded the £32,562.09 raised during the whole of the year to 31st March 2009. This is a wonderful achievement in a year where the NSPCC needs funds to increase the trained staff answering calls to “Child-Line”.

The Branch seeks to raise even more money during this year with various events planned by the three Districts for February and March. Donations and enquiries can be sent to Lis Kay c/o Molesworths Bright Clegg, Solicitors, Octagon House, 25-27 Yorkshire Street Rochdale OL16 1RH.
