Council publishes list of priority gritting routes

Rochdale Council has published a list of the priority roads which will be gritted as the cold snap continues.

The Council continues to face a grit short shortage and can not grit all of the town's main roads.

A spokesman for the Council said: “We're doing all we can to keep roads safe and traffic moving. Unfortunately we've been affected by the national shortage of road grit - which has hit most councils across the region and the country.

“We've been asked by central Government to reduce our grit use and limit the number of routes we normally treat. That means our priority for now is to keep key strategic routes open - as well as main thoroughfares between our towns, and roads around hospitals, fire, ambulance and police stations."
