Recycle Christmas trees

Date published: 15 January 2010

Rochdale residents are being encouraged to recycle their Christmas trees at one of a number of collection points across the borough.

A new record was set last year when 3,550 trees were recycled and 14 tonnes of good wood was used to benefit the local area instead of it sitting unused in a landfill.

When real trees are chipped down they can be used as mulch to protect soil from the climate.

Councillor Irene Davidson, leader of Rochdale Council, said: “Rather than trying to squeeze your real tree into your brown garden bin or struggle to shut your car boot and take it to the tip, you can bring it round to your local Christmas tree collection point.

“Not only are these collection points convenient for local people, they help people do something good for their local area too. Thanks to everyone who’s recycled their tree already – you’ve certainly done your bit for the community.”
