Councillor Ann Metcalfe has called for help to repair unadopted roads in the borough
Councillor Ann Metcalfe has called for the council to improve the state of unadopted roads throughout the borough.
The concern comes as pot holes in the roads continue to cause trouble for drivers and pedestrians, despite Councillor Metcalfe's repeated requests to sort the problem out.
Councillor Metcalfe explained that numerous people in Norden have approached her about the state of unadopted roads but because the roads are not council owned ward councillors can not use ward funds to improve them.
Councillor Metcalfe said: “The unadopted roads need to be improved. They are extremely dangerous. In this day and age something must be done.
“I have been told that it can’t be done, however I am aware that unadopted roads in the Pennines Township are repaired.
“It is important to meet the needs of the people in the area and this has been a need for years. We don’t want motorways making or anything wonderful, we just want the roads tidying up and making safe.
“I have been trying to chase this up for a long time. Living in Norden means that this problem affects me just as much as everybody else.”
Councillor Andrew Abbot, Chairman of the Rochdale Township, was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.
