Police are warning motorists to freeze out opportunist thieves.
Police in Rochdale are warning motorists to remain vigilant against opportunist thieves by not leaving vehicles unattended while defrosting their cars.
By staying with vehicles while de-icing them on frosty mornings, motorists can dramatically reduce their chances of having their vehicle stolen. They should also always ensure that their cars are fully locked and secured when unattended.
Jackie Bell, crime reduction advisor for Greater Manchester Police’s Rochdale Division said: “It’s a real temptation to go back inside into your warm home after turning your engine on but people often forget that it takes seconds for a thief to steal a car when the keys have been left in the ignition.
“People unfortunately don’t realise that in addition to the distress and inconvenience caused by the initial theft, insurance companies are unlikely to pay out if vehicles are stolen this way. This sadly leaves many victims in a serious financial dilemma, which is why I am urging motorists to remain vigilant against opportunist thieves and keep them out of your vehicle.”
