Police in Rochdale have appointed a new inspector and a new sergeant to head up the Rochdale South Neighbourhood Policing Team, while a new sergeant has joined the Rochdale North Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Inspector Dave Lees joins the Rochdale South Neighbourhood Policing Team following 26 years of policing service. The Rochdale born officer began his policing career at the Metropolitan Police where he worked for seven years before joining Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

During his time with GMP he has been based at Oldham Division, the Tactical Vehicle Crime Unit and Roads Policing Unit. He has also worked as both a Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant and Response Inspector at Rochdale Division.

Inspector Lees said: “I’ve been in the post a month now and already I can see it is a fantastic team with a dedicated priority ward sergeant and officers working to meet the needs of those in our communities. My main priority is to deliver the Policing Pledge and by consulting with the community we will identify their priorities so that my officers can focus their efforts in improving the quality of life for the local community.”

Sergeant Shoheb Chowdhury joined Greater Manchester Police in June 2003 after working for the Metropolitan Police for over two years.

During his time in GMP he has worked in response and CID at Longsight and response sergeant for Trafford Division. He has most recently worked from Chester House where he was staff officer to ACC Dave Thompson and ACC Justine Curran.

Sergeant Chowdhury said: “Neighbourhood Policing is a new challenge for me and I am keen to start working with our local partners such as the housing association, council and community organisations to make the community a safer and more pleasant place for everyone to live.”

Sergeant Colin Macdiarmid has joined the Rochdale North Neighbourhood Policing Team. He was previously a response sergeant in Rochdale and has been a police officer for 15 years.

Sergeant Macdiarmid said: “I am looking forward to the many challenges that lie ahead and working together with the local community and partners such as the council, housing associations and community leaders and associations in the area. I am keen to get stuck in to the problems in my area to help make them safer places for all of the community.”
