The Big Clean returns - a chance to make your area shine
Date published: 11 January 2010

The Big Clean
The Big Clean, the massive clean up campaign in which residents tell Rochdale Council what pieces of land they want to shine, is back for 2010.
The council has put £100,000 towards tidying up the borough and now they want your ideas for which areas are most in need of a clean up.
A spokesperson for the Big Clean said: "This time the Big Clean is going to be bigger and better than before by making a more noticeable difference to where you live. So, the bigger the area of land you’re putting forward is the better! We really want to make a huge difference and make the place where you live gleam with pride."
"Ideas can be just about anything that involves transforming a piece of land into a place we can all be proud of. It could be a simple tidy up of a piece of land strewn with litter, landscaping an overgrown piece of scrubland, or improving land to create a place for your children to play. Whatever your idea – the more creative it is the better!
"A handy little tip is that your idea is much more likely to be successful if the improvements will make a lasting difference for the benefit of the community. We’re open to your suggestions – so over to you."
The deadline for suggestions of pieces of publicly-owned land for a Big Clean is 27 January.
Leader of Rochdale Council and cabinet member for environment and sustainability, Councillor Irene Davidson, said: “For me, the Big Clean marks a really exciting time in the council’s campaign calendar. What’s great about it is that it’s local people who are telling the council what they want to see improved in their area.
“This is a great opportunity for you to tell the council what improvements you want to see on your street, in your village, or anywhere else in the borough. This is a really exciting project to be involved in – and I can’t wait to see what ideas we get in.”
