Shadow Minister for Community Cohesion and Social Action, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi visited the Castlemere Community Centre in Rochdale on Monday (4 January).
Baroness Warsi was accompanied by Mudasir Dean the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Rochdale. Both were impressed by the work carried out by the Centre that recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Baroness Warsi described the community centre as a ‘credit’ to Rochdale. She said: “This is a unique organisation owned, run and managed by the local community which is a credit to the people of Rochdale and a real example of what communities can achieve when they work together.”
Mudasir Dean, said: “It is good to see so many positive initiatives being run for the local community from a community centre with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
“Recently rumours have been spread by our political opponents that once in government the Conservatives will cut funding for Sure Start centres. This is simply not true. In his conference speech in Manchester David Cameron confirmed that a future Conservative Government would not cut funding for centres like Castlemere Sure Start.”
In March 2009 the Castlemere Community Centre won the North West Development Agency's Social Enterprise of the Year Business Award.
