Shoebox surprise for RBH tenants

Date published: 07 January 2010

Staff at Rochdale Boroughwide Housing provided Christmas cheer to local tenants with their first ever shoe box appeal.

Their aim was to bring a smile to the faces of some of their customers, in particular the elderly, who may not necessarily have many visitors over the holidays.

A brainstorming session held by RBH’s Money Matters team, fronted by Angela Havens, led to the launch of the Shoebox appeal, where boxes are filled with a variety of gifts.

Angela said, “I was delighted by the overwhelming response from our housing staff which enabled us to fill 62 boxes of goodies. We now intend to make this an annual event and hopefully seek sponsorship to ensure the project is bigger and better next year.”

The RBH team, which included the helping hands of the Executive Management Team, braved the wintry weather just before Christmas Eve to deliver the parcels across the borough’s estates.

Angela added: “The tenants were really visibly surprised. It just goes to show that the little things we often take for granted really do make a huge difference.”
