Business as usual for the Fire Service
Date published: 06 January 2010
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service are operating as normal despite the adverse weather and challenging driving conditions.
Staff have managed to get to work and all emergency vehicles remain available. The service has also reported slightly lower levels of calls to help the public.
However, the road conditions have led to a slight increase in time to attend emergency incidents.
County Fire Officer Steve McGuirk said: “Despite the worst effects of the weather we have maintained our emergency response capability, attending incidents in an average of just over nine minutes during the worst of the recent weather.
"However we don’t want people to forget their fire safety precautions, and help protect themselves by following some simple tips:
- Ensure you have smoke alarms fitted in your home – and check they are working.
- Make sure everyone in your home knows what to do in an emergency – make an escape plan.
- In the event of a fire – Get out, Call 999 and Stay out.
