Dramatic message for teenagers

Date published: 06 January 2010

Teenagers in Rochdale wondering what to do when they leave school are going to get a message that will make them think about the possibilities available at university or college.

Aimhigher Rochdale has commissioned Theatre& to take its ‘The Bigger Picture’ performance to schools in Rochdale to help young people see what higher education could provide for them.

Delivered by actors, ‘The Bigger Picture’ uses drama to get the message across that staying in learning will lead to better qualifications, more choice and greater opportunities in life. The actors also help their young audience understand what help is available and that there is support and advice at hand.

Fran Coltas from Aimhigher Rochdale said: “Aimhigher works to give confidence to young people to take what they love doing and build it into a career through Higher Education. Drama is a great way to motivate and encourage the students and we know from past events that they love the performances.

“The theatre shows explore the many options open to young people after Year 11 with particular reference to college and university. It encourages students to think carefully about their choices and reinforces that there is help and support available through the Connexions Service.”

The tour starts on 13 January at Oulder Hill Community High School and will visit Heywood Community HS, Holy Family RC/C of E College, Falinge Park HS, Balderstone Technology College, Siddal Moor Sports College, St. Anne’s Academy, Hollingworth BEC, Redwood School, Springhill HS and Middleton Technology School through the course of the month.
