New homes in Langley

Date published: 06 January 2010

More new homes are being built on Riverside’s development on the former site of the Welcome Inn on Wood Street, Langley, Middleton.

Filling the vacant plot between Milbeck Gardens and Bowness Road will be 24 two-bedroom apartments. G&J Seddon are building the new homes.

The £2 million development is being funded by Riverside with grant support from the Homes and Communities Agency. Housing Market Renewal has supported the design of the apartments and is contributing to landscaping around the site.

The three-storey development has been designed to high eco standards achieving Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes; a first for Seddon.

In addition to the extensive insulation to all floors, walls and the roof, the inclusion of a new bio-mass mechanical heating system will be a major influence on the environmental impact of the building.

The central boiler will be powered by a combination of wood pellets and natural gas, significantly reducing carbon emissions compared to a standard heating system.

Local resident and member of the tenant’s association, Mary Jepson welcomed the work. “The approach to the improvement works was brilliant from the beginning right through to the end.

Seddon and Riverside have delivered not only fantastic improvements to our homes but a great community feel which we hope will be even better when the new apartments are completed and we can welcome new residents to the area.”
