Future options for Council housing
Date published: 06 January 2010
Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) and the Council have established an Investment and Involvement Commission to examine future options for how council owned housing in the borough is financed and managed.
The Commission has been set up following Government announcements proposing changes to the way the current national council housing finance system works.
So far the Commission has met three times. It includes RBH Board Members, Councillors and tenants and is independently chaired by Professor Ian Cole, a leading housing expert.
The group are exploring various future options in terms of how they might generate increased investment on properties and estates, ensure that there is continued funding available to improve services, help regenerate neighbourhoods and further increase tenant influence over decision making regarding the housing service.
The Commission will meet on two further occasions and will then produce a report on future options for consideration by the Council.
