Wii for Norman Weall Court
Date published: 31 December 2009
Rochdale Boroughwide Housing’s Community Kids programme is now well established as integral to RBH’s efforts in promoting the Respect Agenda. As part of the scheme, primary school pupils from a local Middleton school visited elderly tenants at a neighbouring sheltered complex to find out what it was like to live in sheltered accommodation.
During that visit they were surprised to see an empty wall bracket which was left when the tenants had their TV stolen. The pupils immediately decide to fundraise to help buy a new set, but finding out later that the residents had managed to replace it themselves decided to use the money to treat the tenants to a Wii system which they could then show them how to use.
The system was presented as an early Christmas present and much fun and laughter ensued as games were played between the generations. The residents put on lunch for the children and there are plans to make the visits a regular occurrence.
