Council lead clean up and repair operation
Date published: 19 January 2007
The clean up and repair operation following the gales of Thursday (18 January) started early and continued throughout the day with council workers having dealt with 140 damaged or uprooted trees by lunchtime and the number expected to rise as the day continued. Council Building control staff have also continued to respond to calls throughout today (Friday 19 January).
Priority is being given to trees that have fallen across roads, on to vehicles or homes, etc. and when that is done trees that have fallen over where there is no immediate risk, in parks and back gardens, etc. will be dealt with.
For the third time in a matter of months the owners of the CTV electronics shop at the junction with Mellor Street and Bury Road were mopping up flood damage. Residents in Redland Close in Littleborough also suffered localised flooding.
In a more serious incident, a street sign hit an elderly woman in Yorkshire Street, Rochdale. She was taken to hospital however, the full extent of the lady's injuries are unknown.
There was also a scaffolding collapse at a building site in Middleton but no injuries were reported.
