Rochdale joins 'city region'
Date published: 18 December 2009
Rochdale will be given more powers from central government after the 10 Greater Manchester authorities reached a 'city region' agreement earlier today (Friday 18 December).
The agreement will give Rochdale, as part of the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities, more responsibility for transport, education and housing issues, according to Government ministers.
The Deputy Leader of Rochdale Council, Councillor Irene Davidson, signed the agreement this morning alongside Lord Peter Smith, chairman of AGMA, and Phil Woolas MP, Minister for the North West.
It is hoped that the agreement will benefit the region economically through devolved powers and more responsibility at a local level.
