Fire fighters and councillors combat anti-social behaviour

Date published: 16 December 2009

Fire fighters attended the Green Meadows and Steps Meadows estates in Wardle today in the hope of tackling problems caused by youth nuisance in the area.

They were joined by local ward Councillors Ashworth, Akram and Kerslake, Birch View Tenants the Environmental Service and the local PCSOs.

The aim of the day was to bring to the attention of the local residents the seriousness of the actions of a minority of youths who have been participating in Anti-Social behaviour towards the Fire Service by starting small fires and attacking firefighters.

The group knocked on the doors of more than 250 homes and got a positive response from house holders who are equally fed up with the activities that are going on.

Councillor Jean Ashworth said: "It has been a very successful campaign and we hope to bring to an end these anti- social activities with the positive attitude of the community. We will be doing more of these awareness days throughout the year.”

The public can help by contacting Crime stoppers on 0800 555 111 if they have any information about these problems.
