Cub scouts meet local officers and tour police cells

Date published: 16 December 2009

Youngsters from the First Milnrow Cub Scout Group met their local police officers to help them complete their local knowledge badge.

The group, all aged between eight and 10 visited the station at Featherstall Road, Littleborough earlier this month and were given a tour of the cells.

Other activities throughout the evening included fingerprinting and a role-playing event involving a cub leader taking on the role of an offender before being taken through the custody process from booking in, to being taken to the cells and finally being charged.

Sergeant Joanne Reid from the Pennine Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This is great way for youngsters to get to know their local policing team and even better way of teaching youngsters the consequences of taking part in criminal activity.

“The children are still young but this is the best time to make them aware of their surroundings and learn about safety.”

Julie Haymer, Akela to the group, said: “The decision to visit the station was not only for the badge but also to give the youngsters a chance to meet and get to know their local officers.

“Everyone loved having their fingerprints taken and were really excited to be able to take them home with them.

“The boys really enjoyed the tour of the station particularly the visit to the cells. It really helped them understand how the station worked.”
