Freemasons give Christmas gifts to hospice

Date published: 16 December 2009

Members of various Masonic Lodges from Rochdale have visited Springhill Hospice to present Day Hospice patients with Christmas hampers.

Day Hospice Sister, Pat Harding, said, “It’s a wonderful gesture to think about others at this very special time of year. I know that our patients really appreciate these gifts and we extend our thanks to the Freemasons of Rochdale for their kindness.”

In addition, continuing an annual programme of support, the Freemason’s Grand Charity is donating £500,000 to hospices across England and Wales.

The money is an important contribution towards the millions of pounds needed each and every year to ensure these services can continue providing free physical, emotional, social and spiritual care to patients and their families. In total 225 hospices will receive grants from the Grand Charity.

As their allocation to Springhill Hospice from this fund Rochdale Freemasons handed over a cheque for £2472 to Julie Halliwell, Organisational Development Manager at Springhill.

Mrs Halliwell said, “We are delighted when the application form arrives with us each year. This year we took the opportunity to apply for funds to assist us in completing our refurbishment programme which we hope to commence in 2010.”
