Date published: 13 December 2009
Families venturing out into Queen’s Park Heywood today, Sunday 13 December, were treated to an afternoon of festive music performed by Milnrow Junior Brass Band.
The afternoon of Christmas music arranged by Queen’s Park Friends group, began at 1.30pm and the band performed traditional Christmas carols, including Silent Night and Jingle Bells to an audience gathered in the park.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale were amongst those singing along.
Mayor Swift said: “It is pleasing to see so many families turning out to enjoy an afternoon of music in the wonderful Queen’s Park, the weather has been kind to everybody. Cold but bright, which matches the occasion.”
Sheila Hill, Chairwoman of Queen’s Park Friends Group, said: “We do events all year round so we thought it would be appropriate to do something for Christmas, and we thought it would be appropriate to celebrate Christmas with some songs in the park.”
