Darnhill Library opened by Jim Dobbin MP

The newly re-furbished Darnhill Library, Heywood was opened today (Saturday 12 December) by Jim Dobbin, MP for Heywood and Middleton.

The new-look library features improved access, new shelving, an improved design and layout and extended community meeting room facilities.

It also has a new designated teen area developed in conjunction with local people, more computers with free internet access a Play Station and refreshed book stock.

The library was closed for re-furbishment in January this year and has opened its doors to the public with a completely new look, MP Jim Dobbin, said: “I am amazed to see the difference, I used to do my surgeries here and I remember how it used to look.

“My congratulations go to the staff and the community for achieving this, these things don’t just happen, a lot of work has been put into the new library.”

Ann Jones has worked at the library for twenty years, she said: “It looks completely different, the thing that thrills us the most is that everybody is really pleased.”

The Darnhill community are really pleased with the new library and all it has to offer, Vernon Shelmerdine has lived on the estate most of his life, he said: “I have been on this estate from day one and I have watched it grown and I have seen it change, this library has a lot to offer and a much better range of facilities for the young ones.”

Councillor Colin Lambert, spoke on behalf of the three ward councillors, he said: “This is a wonderful development of a fantastic community facility.”
