Middleton Technology School to represent Rochdale in the Lego League
Date published: 11 December 2009
Middleton Technology School have won a place in the National First Lego League Tournament after beating eight other schools in a regional competition.
The team from the school will represent the Borough at the national tournament in January, to be held at Loughborough University.
Teams from nine schools in the borough competed for the winning place at Middleton City Learning Centre.
The project began in September and the schools had to build a robot from Lego and prepare a presentation on the theme ‘Smart Move’ - this could be anything to do with transport or moving things around.
Today they had to compete with their robot, give their presentation and a technical review.
Mr Sanderson, from Middleton Technology School, was delighted with the win, he said: “I am really happy for the team, they have done all this themselves and to get to the finals is fantastic.”
Faye Kennedy, from the winning team, said: “We have all worked really hard together and we are proud of what we have achieved.
“We didn’t expect to win so we are very happy.”
The Mayor and Mayoress of Rochdale attended the tournament and handed out trophies made of Lego to the winners; everyone who took part also received a medal.
Mayor Swift, said: “It is really good for the children of the borough of Rochdale to make it to a national competition.
“It is wonderful to see that children can access the latest technology and I am sure Middleton Technology School will represent the borough of Rochdale very well.
“I would also like to thank the staff from all the schools who have taken part for giving their free time to make this competition possible.
