Members of the community meet police officers and council representatives at the Belfield Hate Crime Open Day
Last month police hosted a hate crime open day at the Meadowfield Community Centre in Belfield.
Residents were given the chance to speak to officers from the Pennine Neighbourhood Policing Team together with Community Safety, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing and Victim Support.
The groups informed members of the public about the range of different services available to them and what to do if they felt they were the subject of a hate crime.
Sergeant Joanne Reid for Pennine Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We hope that this will be the start of similar events in the future, throughout the year. We want to make ourselves more accessible and hope that such events will give the community the chance to discuss issues face to face.
“Hate crime has a potentially devastating impact on a victims’ life and as a Force and Division we ensure that these crimes are fully investigated with offenders prosecuted and victims given our continual support.
“I would urge anyone who is experiencing problems to come and speak with your Neighbourhood Policing Team.”
