Residents will soon be able to benefit from state-of-the-art health facilities as the keys to the new health centre in Hamer and Wardleworth were officially handed over from the builders.

Construction on the £8.4million development, which will be a centre for children’s services, has now been completed and a range of services are preparing to move in.

John Pierce, Chairman at NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale, said: “This is the fourth new health centre to be built in the borough of Rochdale and I can absolutely say that the builders and the architects that we work with have done another great job in designing and developing fantastic state-of-the-art health facilities.

“The health centre has been built right in the heart of the community, and will help to improve access to health and social care services for many years to come.”

The new development is being built in partnership with the Eric Wright Group and architects, Nightingale Associates and fronts a site facing the River Roch on Belfield Road.

Services will begin to move over (many from Baillie Street Health Centre) in the New Year with the centre likely to open by the end of January 2010. Following this, there will be an official opening and open day so residents can come and see all that the centre has to offer.

Services include:

Audiology, Child Development Unit, Children’s Community Team (moving from Milnrow), Children’s Occupational Therapy, Children’s Physiotherapy, Contraceptive Services, Dental Practice (Mr Ko’s practice moving from Baillie Street Health Centre), Diabetic Retinal Screening, District Nurses Treatment Room, GP Practice (Dr Barbar’s practice moving from Baillie Street Health Centre), Health Visitors, Leg Ulcer Assessment, Minor operations surgery, Opthalmology Clinical Assessment and Treatment Service (for eyes), Orthoptics, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Pyschological Therapies, Speech and Language Therapy and a base for School Health Practitioners and the District Nursing Team.
