Beech House School Christmas fundraiser

Date published: 10 December 2009

Pupils at Beech House school held a Christmas fair to raise money for two charities.

The fair was organised by pupils from year 9 and year 11 for students and staff and included a Santa’s Grotto, tombola, a bake sale and much more.

The Year 11 pupils decided to put their half of the money raised to Springhill Hospice and the Year 9 pupils will use their money to sponsor a 12 year old girl in Cambodia organised through the school and World Vision.

Zara Ayrton, 16, took part in organising the fair, she said: “Today took a lot of organisation but it has been a really good and I would do it again. We decided to put our money to Springhill Hospice because they rely on donations and we felt it was a good cause.”

Sonia Cruz, 15, co-organised the event and was pleased with how it went, she said: “We have had a really good morning and everybody seems to have enjoyed it.”

Jackson Cowie and Kelley Bromely from year 9 also put a lot of hard work into the fair, Jackson said: “We had to put all our ideas together and our best one was the fair so it went from there, we had to raise £50 for our chosen cause and we have raised that just on the tombola stall.

“It has been busy getting everything together but things fell into place today.”

Year 9 form tutor, Mr Clark-Steel, said: “The staff have had very little to do with the organising we have just helped things fall into place.

“The children have all been brilliant, they have shown fabulous leadership skills and they have really worked as a team.

“I think they may have started a tradition now for years to come.”
